This week was a good week. A good friend of mine helped me pull off a surprise birthday party for my brother. It’s hard to believe he’s 50. Nearly 30 friends and family attended. We had a private room at a local restaurant, the food was great, and the cakes that a friend of mine made were wonderful. Yes, I said cakes. I believe special occasions call for cakes, not cake!

Another good friend had to fly to Texas because her sister was in ICU. As the week progressed, her sister is doing much better and is no longer in ICU. Yet another friend who had a slipped disk and was in excruciating pain, was able to see a chiropractor 3 times last week and is almost good as new.

Now, granted… I’m very happy that my brother had a great time at his party, I’m thankful that many prayers have been answered and friends and family are feeling better, but what really made my week is renewing a connection with a long lost friend.

Years ago, when I had a corporate job, I met a girl named Norma. She lived in California and worked at our home office. I don’t recall how everything came about, but we were introduced… our jobs interacted quite a bit. Norma and I talked many times during the day. Occasionally, I would venture out to San Francisco and Norma would let me stay with her while I was there. We became good friends, in fact, we took several trips together.

Have you ever met someone and you just hit it off with them from the get go?  Have you ever met someone and you felt like you’ve known them all your life?  THIS was Norma. She made my job easy, she made work fun, she’s beautiful, intelligent, a million laughs, and has the most amazing energy… she just bubbles!  She introduced me to some holistic therapies, a healthier lifestyle, different cultures, thoughts, and ideas.

She left the company before I did, we kept in touch for a while, life went by and somehow we lost touch. It’s been 8 years. Over those 8 years, I’ve thought about her often. I would search for her on the internet with no luck. When I joined Facebook, I search… again, no luck. Recently, I joined Pinterest. One day this week, I was sitting at my computer and thought…’Norma would be someone who would be involved with Pinterest, she’s got to be on it!’ Once again, my search began. I’m not even sure exactly what happened, but somehow, someway… I found her. The picture that caught my eye was one in which Norma was posing with a rather large high heeled shoe. The picture had Norma written all over it! I went back to Facebook and found her there, I went to the internet and found her on Linkedin. I couldn’t contact her through Pinterest, I wasn’t exactly sure about the profile in Facebook, so I tried to contacted her through Linkedin.  As I was typing her a message, tears came to my eyes. I couldn’t believe that I might have finally found my friend after 8 long years.

The next morning I was checking my email and as I scrolled through my messages… there it was! An email from Norma!!!  She wrote me a little note, gave me her cell number, and stated she would be in touch. We’ve not connected yet, but my hopes are high that we’ll be able to find time at some point in the next week or so. She emailed her Skype name so hopefully we’ll connect through Skype. Technology is amazing. Not only may I be able to talk with her, but I might be able to see her too!  I wait with anticipation and excitement to talk with my energizing, vibrant, loving friend.

What connections with others do you have?  Is there someone you haven’t seen or talked to in a while? Make the effort, it will be worth it. We were created for relationship. Keep in touch with those people that lift you up, support you, energize you. Those are the relationships worth cultivating and embracing. You’ll be amazed at what those relationships will do for your health and well being.

Blessings in the coming week
