Beauty Breaks

Last week was a good week. Well, it was a good week for me. I went to a reception for my best friend’s son who got married at the beach several weeks ago. I couldn’t make it to the actual wedding, so it was great to see old friends at the reception. There was a photo booth at the reception, and some friends and I crammed into it and took some funny pics. I had never done that before, it was fun. I took over a hundred pics while at the reception and most turned out well… that made me happy. I’m always happy when my pictures turn out the way I intended.

I met with several other friends during the week and had a great time with them also. The only thing that could have made the week better was temperatures in the 80′s instead of over 100. Saturday, I was running some errands and I never knew you could burn your posterior side on hot leather seats wearing pants! I must say, that was a first for me.

Even with the heat this week, I was able to enjoy taking some photos outdoors. Monday night I happened to see what was leading up to be a beautiful sunset. I was in my subdivision, but I had gone to the top of a hill overlooking a farm when I was able to catch some wonderful views. As I was taking photos, a woman came out of her house. I introduced myself and told her she was lucky to be able to have such wonderful views of sunsets in her backyard. I was amazed at her response. She told me she never came outside to see the sunset. I even invited her to walk up the hill and check out the view, but she declined.

I stayed there until the sun was no longer visible. It was so beautiful, so peaceful. That same evening I invited a friend over to eat some pizza and watch the International Space Station go by. When I called her, she was with her horse at a barn about 10 minutes away. We were talking about how beautiful the sunset was that evening. She was telling me that was her favorite time of day… the last hour before the sun sets. I agreed. It always amazes me how I’m busy trying to find that perfect spot for that perfect picture and I’m being so blessed to see such beauty.

As we watched the International Space Station go overhead that evening, I noticed that my brother, my friend, and I were the only ones outside in the neighborhood. I kept thinking, ‘Where is everyone! Why aren’t more people outside looking in the sky and checking this out!’ We had a blast that night, the Space Station was right on time. I was out every night for seven days. I just found it so cool! I posted it on Facebook, I emailed friends, I called other friends. Several nights I had my cousins on the phone as it was going over. They live about 10 minutes away. I thought it was awesome, they thought it was awesome.

I know it may be hot outside, but take some time to walk outside, catch a sunset, stare at the moon. Heck, I saw two shooting stars one night while I was looking for the International Space Station. That’s never happened before. I told you it was a great week! Take time to breathe, relax, enjoy the beauty of your surroundings, listen to nature. It’s amazing what just a few moments can do for you. So often we take these simple things for granted, but just a few unhurried moments in nature can bring joy, peace, and calmness to every cell of your body. Take some beauty breaks this week. Your body will thank you for it.

Blessings in the coming week.
